Liverpool will not sign Ismaila Sarr tonight despite a couple of weeks of links to the Senegal international, with the Reds unlikely to make any further signings. The Reds officially signed Bradley Barcola over the weekend, but will more than likely close their summer transfer window with his acquisition, signing the Frenchman for £123m. As exciting as his arrival at the club is, there are still a number of holes within Andoni Iraola’s squad. It will be interesting to hear what the Spaniard will have to say about the summer window when he speaks to the media on Thursday to preview Liverpool’s Premier League clash against Ipswich Town on Friday night. The latest update on transfers comes from journalist Sacha Tavolieri, who says that Ismaila Sarr will not be joining the Reds this evening. Liverpool were being quoted insane numbers to complete this deal. For a 28-year-old striker with little versatility, it was discouraging to hear that the Merseysiders were being quoted around £75m to complete a deal for Sarr. Then, Crystal Palace closed the door on Liverpool entirely, which led to the Senegal international doing his best to force a move to Anfield, removing all the images on his Instagram account of him in a Palace shirt. It’s an awkward situation now, where he has to go back to training and then to play in front of the Palace fans again after making it very clear that he wants to leave, but that’s the transfer window! As poor as Liverpool’s window has been overall, it’s a relief that the constant speculation is now almost at an end. Andoni Iraola, who is a very good coach to be fair to him, will need to do his best with the players available to him, but barring a miracle, it does not seem likely that Liverpool will find themselves in anything resembling a title challenge this season.
