USA Swimming unveiled its 2026-27 National Team roster on Tuesday, with 101 swimmers earning a spot based on their performances during the 2025-26 season.
Specifically, USA Swimming selected the top six swimmers in the 100 and 200 freestyle, and the top five swimmers in every other individual Olympic event, based on results from September 1, 2025, until August 31, 2026.
They also named six women and six men to the team in the open water category based on criteria you can find here.
The roster is headlined by Katie Ledecky, who earned her 15th selection to the National Team, the highest total among active swimmers on the squad. After returning to competition coming off a year and a half hiatus, Ryan Murphy was named to the National Team for the 14th time, the most among active male swimmers.
“This National Team reflects the incredible depth of talent we have across the country,” USA Swimming National Team Executive Director and Coach Greg Meehan said.
“We have veteran athletes continuing to perform at the highest level alongside a talented group making their first National Team. That combination of experience and emerging talent gives us a lot to be excited about as we build toward LA28.”
Regan Smith leads all swimmers after being named to the National Team in eight different events, while Kate Douglass had the second-highest total with six different events.
On the men’s side, Ryan Erisman and Carson Foster are co-leaders with five qualified events apiece.
American Record holder and 100 free national champion Anna Moesch headlines a group of 18 first-timers on the roster, while fellow national champ Josh Bey is also a notable debutant on the team.
The women’s team (46) is significantly smaller than the men’s (55) due to swimmers like Smith and Douglass qualifying in so many different events.
The full roster spans 29 states and 29 universities. Florida is the most well-represented home state with 11 athletes, while the University of Texas leads all schools with 19 qualifiers.

The roster is significantly smaller than it was last year, as 121 swimmers were apart of the 2025-26 National Team. That is due in part to a change in the selection procedure, as previously, the top six swimmers in each individual Olympic event were selected to the team, and now, only the top five made the cut in every event outside of the 100 and 200 free.
USA Swimming National Team athletes gain access to elite-focused support including direct financial stipends (based on event ranking and world-class “A” time standards), elite athlete health insurance, dedicated travel and recovery funding (covering training, travel, therapy, nutrition, etc.), confidential assistance via an Athlete Ombuds for disputes or mental health support, and career/education resources through the USOPC’s ACE Program, all designed to help athletes focus on training and competing at the highest level.
