Kevin Quinn Breaks Rowdy Gaines’ 50-54 Age Group 50 Free Record At U.S. Masters Championships

2026 U.S. Masters Summer National Championships - Aug. 5-9, 2026 - Sacramento, California - LCM (50 meters) - Meet Central A 17-year-old record set by Rowdy Gaines was broken on the fourth day of the U.S. Masters Summer National Championships. In the men’s 50-54 age group, Kevin Quinn broke Gaines’ record in the 50 free, clocking a time of 24.55. It bested the previous mark of 24.58 set by Gaines in 2009. Quinn’s performance was one of seven records set on the second-to-last day of the competition at the North Natomas Aquatics Complex. The fifth and final day of competition will be Sunday. Other records set on Saturday were: - In the women’s 70-74 age group, Veronica Hibben set new AQUA Masters and USMS records in the 50 free with a time of 30.61. - Laura Val, competing in the women’s 75-79 age group, set new AQUA Masters world and USMS records in the 50 free with a time of 31.28, and in the 50 back with a time of 35.58. - Katie Glenn set a new USMS record in the 100 breast for the women’s 50-54 age group, clocking a time of 1:16.75. - Colette Crabbe, who competed in the 1976 Montreal Olympics for Belgium, set a USMS record in the 100 breast for the women’s 70-74 age group, coming in with a time of 1:36.54. - In the men’s 65-69 age group, David Guthrie set a new AQUA Masters world record in the 100 breast with a time of 1:13.72. - Diann Uustal, who competed in the women’s 80-84 age group, set a new USMS record in the 50 back, clicking a time of 44.13.
