Match Reports Report: Sawkins strike secures victory over Millwall 01 September 2026 Facebook X (Twitter) LinkedIn Email Copy Noah Sawkins’ early goal proved decisive as Fleetwood Town Under-21s secured a 1-0 victory over Millwall at Poolfoot Farm. Town made an energetic start and needed just seven minutes to break the deadlock through their high press. Sawkins won possession high up the pitch before keeping his composure and slotting the ball into the bottom-left corner beyond the Millwall goalkeeper. The contest became increasingly competitive following the opener, with both sides battling for control but clear-cut opportunities proving difficult to come by. Much of the play took place in the air as the two teams contested a series of physical challenges, although Fleetwood continued to look the more threatening of the sides. The Young Cods came close to doubling their advantage when an effort struck the crossbar. Sawkins also threatened from a free-kick on the edge of the penalty area, forcing the Millwall goalkeeper to tip his effort over the bar. The visitors were shown a yellow card following a heavy challenge as the physical nature of the encounter continued. Mikey Lane was introduced from the bench with around 25 minutes remaining as Fleetwood looked to protect their slender advantage. Millwall pushed in search of an equaliser during the closing stages, but Town remained organised and resolute to preserve their clean sheet. The Young Cods successfully saw out the remainder of the contest, with Sawkins’ seventh-minute strike securing a deserved victory and all three points.
