The inaugural season of the Ultimate Sevens is set to be the biggest sevens fixture outside of the SVNS Series, with four exciting weekends of action looming in September. With six new teams – Albion Athletic, Pacific Current, Foudre Bleue, Sol Feroz, Clan Taran and Atlantic Novas – bringing flair from six different parts of the world, fans will have a clear sense of what each team represents and who to barrack for. Part of a rapidly expanding off-season for Sevens players from the HSBC SVNS Series, the Ultimate Sevens marks one of the biggest global competitions to see players in a new light. With teams focusing on continental regions rather than respective nations, the competition will see players from different nations come together to compete, separate from the local team style of Japan’s Taiyo Seimei Women’s Sevens or India’s Rugby Premier League. Kicking off in September, the inaugural season will have a European feel to it, with four weekends back-to-back of action across both established rugby cities and emerging markets, with a final weekend to determine the winner taking place in London. Where are the games? Kicking off in Leganés, Madrid on Saturday, 5th September, the following weeks will see Cardiff Arms Park in Wales and Parc des Sports Aguilera in Biarritz, France hosting regular season games, with the final at Gtech Community Stadium in Brentford, London on Thursday, 24th September. “The venues have been chosen carefully for their connection to the local communities and their ambition to deliver a first-class experience for fans,” Barney Pascall, Managing Director of Ultimate Sevens, said in a statement following the schedule confirmation in July. “Making the Championship a place for new and existing rugby fans to access the sport has been part of our ambition from day one. “We are bringing world-class athletes into brilliant venues, highlighting the true short-form version of rugby, a sport born fast. “We want rugby supporters, young sports fans, families and people looking for an enhanced kind of live sporting experience to feel this is for them.” 2026 Ultimate Sevens Championship schedule: Saturday 5th September 2026 - Estadio Ontime Butarque, Leganés, Madrid, Spain Saturday 12th September 2026 - Cardiff Arms Park, Cardiff, Wales Friday 18th September 2026 - Parc des Sports Aguilera, Biarritz, France Thursday 24th September 2026 - Gtech Community Stadium, Brentford, London, UK Who are the teams? Lastly, the six franchises will see a men’s and women’s side comprising 12 players, with two marquee players, nine elite players and one academy player making up the sides.
