A two-day camp for GB Futures Girls took place at the National Ice Centre in Nottingham last week. Fifty players took part in the camp which included on and off-ice sessions. Both days had two on-ice practices with a classroom-based session in between. The camp was led by a number of GB coaches including Reg Wilcox, Josie Lamey, Kelly Herring, Janne Kaarainen and Vicky Smith. GB U18 Women’s Head Coach Sean Alderson was also present to scout the young talent ahead of January’s World Championship. The GB Futures programme is operated in partnership between Ice Hockey UK and the UK Ice Hockey Foundation (UKIHF), with the programme funded by both organisations to provide development opportunities for young players across the GB pathway. The camp also benefitted from the expertise of the UKIHF’s Corey Neilson and Chrissy Newman who were part of the coaching staff across the two days. Wilcox said: “It was fantastic for the girls to learn from many experienced coaches from both GB Programme and the UK Ice Hockey Foundation. “It was such a good two days and it clearly shows how much talent we have in the UK. We crammed a lot in but the players responded well and worked hard both on and off the ice.”
