There are now less than 24 hours to go until the summer transfer window closes in Spain, and Barcelona still have several unresolved cases. They are about to sign Gabriel Jesus from Arsenal, and with multiple players also primed to leave, there is scape for a further addition to arrive before the deadline at 1am CEST.
Sporting director Deco has been working on the signing of a new central defender to provided added competition in Hansi Flick’s squad. Ronald Araujo’s loan move to Liverpool has opened up a space, and it is one that Barcelona intend to fill – having decided to use the Julian Alvarez elsewhere, realising that Atletico Madrid will not do business with them.
Last week, rumours picked up regarding Barcelona’s interest in Ruud Nijstad. The 18-year-old, who has already established himself as a regular starter for FC Twente, has been on the club’s radar for at least 12 months, and they are willing to make a late move for him, although it is not guaranteed that an agreememnt is reached.
Què T’hi Jugues have confirmed Barcelona’s plans to sign Nijstad, although they have been slightly put off by Twente’s €10m asking price. This is despite the defender being desperate to make the move in the next hours, as MD report.
Barcelona have already offered €8m for Nijstad
Barcelona’s most recent offer for Nijstad was €8m, but this was rejected by Twente, who are determined to receive eight figures to sell one of their prized assets. If the Catalans are to get their man, they will have to up the amount they are willing to pay, but it is not clear at this stage whether they will do so before the transfer window closes.
At this stage, it looks like Nijstad or something for Barcelona – and time is running out if they are to bring him to the Spotify Camp Nou.
