Tottenham boss Roberto De Zerbi is eyeing a new No.9 before the transfer window slams shut. Much to the surprise of the fans, Tottenham Hotspur have splashed the cash on new players this summer. The club’s hierarchy are doing everything possible to back Roberto de Zerbi during the ongoing transfer window by bringing in reinforcements. There is a clear strategy in place, with the Lilywhites prioritising players who already have Premier League experience. This has been evidenced by the six signings the club has made in this transfer window thus far. After adding to defensive and midfield units, the focus should now shift towards improving the attack. The Lilywhites are short of numbers in the final third, and it is important that the issues in attack are addressed before the new season gets underway. TalkSPORT pundit backs Tottenham to sign Ivan Toney Spurs are hoping to bring in attacking reinforcements to aid Roberto De Zerbi’s squad rebuild. With Dominic Solanke struggling with injuries last season, and Richarlison into the final year of his contract, it is important that the North London club signs a striker. Bournemouth’s Eli Junior Kroupi was among the primary targets, but he has been ruled out for several months after recently undergoing foot surgery. This has led Spurs to scramble for alternative targets in the final weeks of the transfer window. Recently speaking on the talkSPORT show, former West Ham star Carlton Cole stated that Tottenham are just an elite goalscorer away from mounting a serious title challenge. He thinks that the Lilywhites could be flying in the Premier League if they sign Al-Ahli striker Ivan Toney. “They need a 20-goal a season striker. There’s not many in the world, is there?” Carlton Cole said on talkSPORT. “I think that they’d look at bringing Ivan Toney or try to get Harry Kane back. They’ll be flying if they bring him back.” Ivan Toney isn’t a bad shout Tottenham were planning to sign Ivan Toney in the January transfer window. Former boss Thomas Frank was eager to reunite with the player and kept the door open for the striker’s return to the Premier League. However, a move for the Englishman didn’t materialise then, with Spurs ending the winter window without signing a striker. Toney has scored a truckload of goals for Al-Ahli since moving from Brentford in the summer of 2024. The 30-year-old was the second-highest goalscorer in the Saudi Pro League last season, netting 32 times in as many appearances for his club. This led to him receiving a call-up to the England squad for the FIFA World Cup, where Toney made just two appearances off the bench. After two seasons in Saudi Arabia, a return to the Premier League should appeal to the former Brentford star. With the striker market shrinking, few would arrive at Tottenham with the assurance of finding the back of the net with regularity as Toney would. There is little doubt that he would be an instant upgrade on both Richarlison and Solanke. As the England international earns an eye-watering £400,000 per week (tax-free) at Al-Ahli, he’d have to take a wage cut to join Tottenham if we show interest.
