City weren’t shy of chances in front of goal as Alex Greenwood’s long range effort hit the cross-bar while Bunny Shaw also went close. But after a goalless first 44 minutes, Fiorentina made things tricky for us as Maya Cherubini fired into the roof of the net to give the hosts the lead. The second-half saw the boss make eight changes which saw Niamh Charles, Mayzee Davies, Freya Hirons and Sienna Davis make their first appearances for the Club. The game continued in the same manner as the first 45 with both teams going close, but on the stroke of 90 minutes Eartha Cumings made a brilliant instinctive triple save with minutes to play to deny the hosts from doubling their lead. Fine work from Lauren Hemp saw us level late on with a deserved equaliser for the Blues, who continued to push hard. Hirons almost saw us ahead on her Manchester City debut as Hemp turned provider with three minutes of added time to play. There was plenty to learn from on a hot evening in Italy, but there’s more preparations to come before we look to defend our Barclays WSL title.
