All Blacks legends Dan Carter and Richie McCaw – along with another former All Blacks flyhalf Stephen Donald – ran up Table Mountain on Sunday morning, showing that retirement from international rugby has done little to diminish their competitive spirit. Star-studded line-up The trio are in South Africa as part of ‘Rugby’s Greatest Rivalry‘, with Carter and McCaw joining a star-studded line-up of Springbok and All Blacks legends. McCaw, 45, who captained New Zealand to back-to-back Rugby World Cup triumphs in 2011 and 2015, finished his career with 148 Test caps, winning a record 131 of those matches for a win percentage of 81.5%. Meanwhile, Carter, now 44, won 112 Tests for the All Blacks and played a key role in both of those World Cup victories. He still holds the world record for Test points scored of 1 598. Donald, 42 played 25 Tests, scoring 116 points – the three most important of which came via the match-winning penalty in the 2011 Rugby World Cup final against France at Eden Park in Auckland. While a sweaty-looking Carter called it a ‘run’ up Table Mountain – he added that it ‘seemed like a good idea at the bottom’ – McCaw posted that was no more than a ‘great morning for a walk up Table Mountain’.
