Cripps to look to add to gold medal collection in tonight’s Hlinka Gretzky Cup final
Ten members of Canada’s Hlinka Gretzky Cup roster will look to add a second gold medal to their collection this evening.
The Prince Albert Raiders’ Brock Cripps is one of them.
Cripps was part of the Canada Red team that won the World U17 Hockey Challenge last year, a tournament he starred in where he was named to the All-Star team after he led all d-men with six points.
“Wearing the Canada logo on your jersey is definitely not something you can do every day so I’m not going to take it for granted and try to win gold for my country.”
Tonight, he’ll look to help Canada to a 26th Hlinka Gretzky Cup title. This past season, he excelled with the Raiders where in the regular season he tallied 37 points but went to another level in the postseason as he had 21 points in 20 games as Prince Albert reached the WHL Championship Series. But going that deep into the playoffs has also shown the Victoria, B.C., native what it takes to win, something he is utilizing this week.
“It was a cool experience to learn what it takes to win a championship,” Cripps recalled. “Its pretty hard. You have to grind through it. We were so close last year but now I know to expect and what it takes to win.”
One of the top prospects for the 2027 NHL Draft, the 17-year-old blueliner is honoured to once again represent his country on the international stage.
“I’m not really worrying about the draft too much,” Cripps said. “I’m worrying about what’s on task right now and that’s winning a gold medal and that’s my main focus right now and succeed at that.”
