Leeds United handed major £30m Igor Paixao transfer boost

Leeds United have set sights on signing Igor Paixao again this summer, as Marseille look in somewhat tight financial trouble.
United’s focus after hopefully landing James Trafford in due course is to add more strength to the attack.
Dispatching of Liverpool with a 4-2 win in Chicago was proof that we have plenty of firepower, but depth behind Dominic Calvert-Lewin and Noah Okafor is still lacking quite noticeably.
Leeds United learn of ‘€50million’ asking price for Marseille winger Igor Paixao
After missing out on Julian Brandt, Leeds have pivoted to other potential attacking reinforcements. Included high on the shortlist is 2025’s top summer target Igor Paixao.
The then-Feyenoord winger opted for Marseille and Champions League football over newly-promoted Leeds. However, it’s not been totally smooth sailing in the south of France despite Paixao’s own strong form.
Financial issues mean that plenty of Marseille’s squad could be considered for sales. Although, if Leeds are seriously interested in signing the Brazilian, Foot Mercato report Marseille want €50million (£43million).
That is some way off Leeds’ supposed €30-35million (£25.6-30million) valuation of the winger.
Marseille must drastically reduce wage structure that could mean Igor Paixao leaves
In order for Marseille to conduct their own business, though, they need to sell. Gregory Schneider claims that the Ligue 1 side need to recoup ‘tens of millions’ before they can start with their own major signings, possibly opening the door for talks over Paixao.
L’Equipe also note that reducing the wage bill is a priority. Importantly, after Mason Greenwood and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang’s agreed exits, Paixao is one of the higher earners still present.
His monthly earnings, per this report, are around £300,000, which nets him around £74,000-per-week. If Marseille are looking for incomings, Leeds’ interest in Paixao might accelerate their own plans,
The French giants’ overhaul might be the opening that the 49ers have been looking for to land last summer’s one that got away.
