West Brom coasted into the second round of the Carabao Cup with a 4-1 win over Rotherham. The damage was done early on with goals coming from debutant Jimmy Jay-Morgan and Harry Whitwell to make it 2-0 at the break. Albion then doubled their lead in a dominant second half. The Baggies were ahead in the eighth minute with Morgan flicking Whitwell’s shot beyond Ted Cann from close range. The two-division difference was evident when Rotherham were cut open again after 24 minutes when the same duo combined and Whitwell turned home the rebound from Morgan’s shot. Jili Buyabu, one of seven debutants for the home side, threatened with a driving run but his shot was wide. Paul Mullin had two chances early in the second half to get Rotherham back into it but the first was blocked and then he drew a low save from Max O’Leary. The game was put out of sight after 55 minutes, with half-time substitute Felix Horn Myhre finishing after Isaac Price had been denied by Cann. Morgan got his second after 61 minutes as he headed home from Callum Styles’ cross. Fabio Tavares struck a consolation goal back for the Millers on 87 minutes after a neat turn.
