His first season in red produced three victories, including a memorable triumph at Monza, where Schumacher defeated Williams' Damon Hill to take his first Italian Grand Prix victory with Ferrari. Over the following decade, Schumacher transformed Ferrari's fortunes. Between 1996 and 2006, he won five World Championships and 71 Grands Prix with the Scuderia, becoming the central figure in the team's most dominant period in Formula 1. Lewis Hamilton and Charles Leclerc will wear specially designed race overalls at the Italian Grand Prix, providing an early indication that Ferrari is preparing something different for its home event. The race suits form part of a wider series of initiatives planned by Ferrari to honour Schumacher and the team's successes during his time with the Scuderia. Ferrari's decision to begin teasing the Monza project has already generated considerable speculation among fans. The team recently published a social media post carrying the caption "Home is calling”, accompanied by a black Prancing Horse against a red background. While Ferrari did not explicitly confirm what the teaser referred to, it immediately prompted speculation that the team was preparing a historic design for its home race. Could the SF-26 echo Schumacher's first Ferrari?One possibility is that Ferrari could draw inspiration from the 1996 F310, the car Schumacher drove during his first season with the team. Such a tribute would carry considerable significance. The F310 was one of the most distinctive Ferrari designs of the 1990s, featuring a darker red bodywork combined with prominent black and white elements. The car also featured gold-coloured wheels, creating a visual identity very different from the Ferrari machines that would dominate the following decade. Most importantly, the F310 carried Schumacher to his first Ferrari victory at Monza. A livery inspired by that car would therefore connect two anniversaries at the same time: 30 years since Schumacher joined Ferrari and 30 years since his first victory for the team at the Italian Grand Prix. The tradition began in its modern form in 2022, when the F1-75 received yellow and black details to celebrate Ferrari's 75th anniversary and Monza's centenary. In 2023, the SF-23 again featured yellow and black elements, this time inspired by Ferrari's successful 499P endurance racer following the manufacturer's overall victory at the 24 Hours of Le Mans. Ferrari did not introduce a comparable special livery in 2024, but the tradition returned last year. The SF-25 adopted a retro-inspired design based on the legendary 312T, including a white engine cover and vintage-style details, as Ferrari celebrated 50 years since Niki Lauda won his first World Championship with the team in 1975. The expected Schumacher tribute would continue that approach while celebrating arguably the most successful driver-team partnership in Ferrari's modern Formula 1 history.
