Charlie Ward hosts first Basketball Elite Camp at FAMU for high school athletes More than 70 athletes participated in the camp TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WCTV) - Heisman Trophy winner, NBA veteran and coach Charlie Ward hosted a one-day basketball camp Sunday for young athletes looking to take their game to the next level. The first-ever Charlie Ward Basketball Elite Camp, held at the Al Lawson Center at Florida A&M University, gave high school athletes an opportunity to showcase their talent and sharpen their skills. “It’s a great opportunity for us to look at some potential students and also be able to give them some wisdom on the recruiting process, strength and conditioning and those types of things that will help them no matter if they are coming to Florida A&M or going to another college,” Ward said. More Tallahassee news: Ward said more than 70 athletes participated in the camp. Campers trained with current FAMU players and guest coaches while learning more about what it takes to compete at the collegiate level. The camp was held in partnership with Champions Ranch, the Florida Lottery and Bright Futures.
