BANDITS KEEPING BATTYE
BERWICK have made an early start to team building for the 2027 season by announcing Australian racer Reid Battye will be back with them next year.
Battye was a newcomer to British Speedway this spring and has made a major impact with the Bandits despite missing two months in the early stages of the campaign due to a serious back injury.
Having come to the club’s attention in his national series last winter, his scoring around Shielfield Park has been a big reason for their 100 per cent home record in the Cab Direct Championship.
Battye said: “I quickly realised that there is something special about both the town of Berwick and the speedway club. As soon as I arrived I felt at home and have really enjoyed my speedway – even the nights when it hasn’t gone quite to plan.
“I’d heard some noise about 2027 but there was never any question that I’d be back with the Bandits.
“There’s at least one Cup Final – we’re aiming to make it two – left to race in my first British season. I’m very excited about that, and to have next season settled so quickly.”
