The Indianapolis Colts had to deal with an unexpected off-field issue early Sunday morning involving one of their star players. Keenan Allen, an experienced wide receiver and six-time Pro Bowler who joined the Colts less than two weeks ago, was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence (DUI).
This arrest happened a few hours after Allen played his first preseason game with the Colts against the Detroit Lions. He was specifically charged with driving while intoxicated (DWI) and endangering another person while doing so.

“It’ll be a slap on the wrist, look at Rashee Rice,” one reacted.
“If Justin Herbert my QB, I would dr**k too,” another reacted.
“Colts need to get him on the McAfee plan,” another wrote.
“Try not to get arrested before the season starts: Mission Impossible,” one wrote.
“Chiefs going to pick him up,” one fan wrote.
According to police records, officers spotted Allen in a car parked in a no-parking area and noticed he seemed drunk when they spoke to him. Being arrested or accused does not mean he is guilty; Allen is considered innocent until proven guilty in court. Justin Powell from FOX 59 reported the details from the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department (IMPD) report and jail records.
“According to an IMPD police report and jail booking, a 34-year-old Keenan Allen, matching the description of the Colts player, was arrested for DUI in downtown Indianapolis around 1 a.m.”
Colts Issue Statement on Keenan Allen Arrest
The Colts have issued an official statement about the incident.
“We are aware of the incident involving Keenan Allen last night. We are in the process of gathering more information and have no further comment at this time,” the organization stated, via a post by Joel Erickson on X.
Allen has played in the NFL for 14 years. He signed a one-year contract worth $8.3 million with the Colts in early August. While Allen will probably keep his place on the team, the NFL might suspend him for this off-field incident.
Under the NFL’s substance abuse policy, a standard first-time DUI suspension is usually two games if there are no extra complicating factors. Recently, the league has regularly given out three-game suspensions for this, but nothing is final on the punishment front usually until the legal case is finished.
Since Allen has no prior public history of legal trouble, this arrest is very out of character for him. At 34 years old, Allen joins the team with some of the best career stats among active NFL wide receivers. Over his NFL career, he has caught 1,055 passes for 12,051 yards and scored 70 touchdowns.
