Liverpool are in talks to sign Brighton star Yankuba Minteh once again, with claims being made that the Seagulls have discussed a more palatable price for the Gambian forward. Talks between the two Premier League clubs had previously collapsed over Liverpool’s unwillingness to pay the reported £80m fee that the south coast outfit wants for Minteh. The 22-year-old has all the tools to become an elite forward despite his relatively low attacking output to date and the hip surgery that currently has him sidelined until late October. Liverpool, however, have identified the right-winger as the ideal player to sign now that they are selling Cody Gakpo to Manchester City. Minteh is not exactly a like-for-like swap for Gakpo, but Bradley Barcola is the player that will take the Dutchman’s starting role on the left, while Gakpo’s departure will free the funds and non-homegrown spot for Minteh to join Liverpool. Latest on Liverpool talks with Brighton to sign Minteh According to Fodat Manneh, the first journalist to break the news that Liverpool had made a bid for Minteh, now reports that Liverpool have “reactivated” talks with Brighton. Their first two bids, worth £50m and £60m respectively, were rejected immediately by Brighton, but the two clubs have returned to the negotiating table to discuss a “new price” for the winger. There is certainly a lot of room for growth in order for Minteh to become a truly elite player. His approach play, however, is what Liverpool are likely more excited about. There are very few wingers in the Premier League better at driving a team forward, which is something that Andoni Iraola demands from his wingers. Time will tell if Minteh can add the end product to his game that is needed for him to reach the kind of level that Liverpool require from a starting right winger, particularly after the miracles we saw Mohamed Salah work during his nine years in the same role.
