The Miami Dolphins were in need of a new backup quarterback for Malik Willis this year. The Dolphins just traded Quinn Ewers to the Jacksonville Jaguars, leading to a need at quarterback for Miami. Now, the Green Bay Packers are providing the Dolphins with a backup QB. The Packers are trading Kyle McCord to the Dolphins, per Adam Schefter of ESPN. “Trade: Packers are sending QB Kyle McCord to the Miami Dolphins in exchange for a 2028 6th-round pick, per sources. After trading Quinn Ewers to the Jaguars, the Dolphins needed a new backup for Malik Willis. Now the Dolphins have two former Packers QBs,” Schefter posted on X, formerly Twitter. The Packers have Jordan Love as the established starting quarterback. Last season, Malik Willis was the backup, but he is now with the Dolphins as the starter. McCord signed a reserve/futures contract with the Packers in January 2026, but the team also brought in Tyrod Taylor to compete for the job. Taylor has been the backup with the New York Jets the last two seasons, and has been in the league since 2011. He won the backup job, making McCord expendable. McCord was a three-year player at Ohio State, starting for the team in 2023. He then transferred to Syracuse in 2024, starting 13 games for the team. He was then drafted by the Philadelphia Eagles in the sixth round of the 2025 NFL Draft. McCord was waived in final cuts by the team, but signed back on with the practice squad. McCord will be the backup this year for Willis, with no other quarterbacks currently on the roster.
