Steven Pressley described Dundee’s performance as the best of his reign after they cruised to a dominant 2-0 home win over meek Aberdeen. The Dark Blues bossed the first half and led at the break through an early goal from Joe Westley. Winger Joe Bevan then capped a brilliant individual display by lashing home the Dee’s second in the 56th minute as they notched their first William Hill Premiership points of the season. “You should know me by now, I don’t often get too excited about things, but since coming to Dundee just over a year ago, I think that’s been our most complete and our best performance,” said manager Pressley. “It had everything that I look for in a Dundee team. It had speed, it had excitement, it had composure at the right times, but, boy, did it have resilience. “Some of the players were running on empty the last 20-25 minutes because of the style of football that we’re trying to adopt, and it will take time for us to reach the levels of fitness that we truly need. “And I think also another big understanding is that to play that way, we need a strong squad because players struggle to perform in that high-octane manner for 90 minutes. “I couldn’t be prouder of the group today. They were just incredible.” Bevan has had to be patient since joining from Burnley in January but the 22-year-old delivered a display that indicates he will be a key player for the Dee this term. “We’re really excited with Joe,” said Pressley. “He’s got English Premier League physicality, he’s got incredible speed, he’s really strong on one-on-one, and he’s actually a good finisher. “We just want him to grow and keep believing in himself because he gives us something different. He certainly gave a truly incredible performance.” A large travelling support regularly vented their anger as Aberdeen’s five-game winning streak came shuddering to a halt in insipid fashion. Boss Stephen Robinson said: “We got what we deserved. It’s not what we’ve come to expect over the last five games. I thought they ran all over us physically, their two boys in midfield. “It was always my fear when Brad Lyons and Connor Ronan were ruled out, that we’d lose a physical element and we did. “Collectively we weren’t at the races. A lot of bad decisions in and out of possession. “We have to be better than that, it’s simple. That’s my team and I take full responsibility for that. Without stating the obvious, it wasn’t acceptable to me. “There’s nobody in there kidding themselves that it was a good performance. Nobody’s come out with any kind of credit today. Mainly myself has come out with zero credit. We have to pick ourselves up.”
