West Ham continued their winless start to the 26/27 Championship season with a 1-1 draw against Watford. The fans really aren’t liking what they’ve seen so far, but we’re learning more and more about the players and Nuno game my game. Here after four things we learnt from Saturday’s match at Vicarage Road . 1. The Southampton win meant nothing We all got a bit excited after Tuesday night, a 4-1 cup win away to what will likely title rivals Southampton. The youngsters shined, and the team had a new energy we haven’t seen for a long time. The players looked up for it, we were attacking, and everyone had a smile on their faces. We all hoped this game would’ve given Nuno the idea to change how the team plays in the League, but that wasn’t the case. Nuno clearly didn’t care about the cup game too much and it’s the only game we’ve played well. This leads on to number two… 2. Nuno still isn’t the right man for West Ham Nuno Espírito Santo might be the type of manager West Ham needs in the Premier League, but he certainly isn’t what we need for this season in the EFL Championship. When it was announced that Nuno was going to stay, I didn’t agree but it was understandable, he is the manager we’d want when we get promoted. However, he wasn’t the manager that could give us an enjoyable season of high-scoring attacking football. That has been proven right so far, however, I thought because of the amount of talent we have in the squad he’d still be able to win a lot of games and get us promoted comfortably. However, three League games in without a win and not one spell in those 270 minutes where we’ve looked like the most talented squad in the League. It’s really worrying, if he doesn’t turn it around in the next few weeks he could be sacked, and that would cost the club a hell of a lot of money. 3. Golambeckis is the present and future Not much continued from Tuesday’s thrashing of Southampton, but one thing that did was the excellent performance of Golambeckis. In the two matches he’s played the eighteen year old has looked like our most composed centre-back. He’s looked a lot better than Mavropanos this season and that proves just how bad the Greek international has been, especially against Charlton last weekend. If Dinos is fit on Tuesday I think I’d keep the central defensive pairing of the England youth international and Max Kilman. 4. This team is not built for the Championship The West Ham team didn’t have enough to deal with the hustle and bustle of the Premier League while playing Nuno’s way. So, Nuno and the board had two options. One, to play the way Nuno is known for and bring in players up for the fight, players with Championship experience. Or, keep these types of players, and sign some more and change to a move expansive style of play. However, this didn’t happen. Nuno is continuing trying to play his boring, defensive style of football which worked at times in the Premier League. However, it isn’t working at all in the Championship, teams are sitting back against us and we’re struggling so much to break them down.
