Minnesota Lynx rookie point guard Olivia Miles is having one of the most impressive rookie campaigns in WNBA history. Miles has led a Lynx squad that has been without perennial MVP candidate Napheesa Collier for the bulk of the campaign to the number one seed in the WNBA, entering the break in action for the 2026 FIBA World Cup. Miles is top ten in both points and assists, and seems all but guaranteed to win Rookie of the Year honors unanimously. On No Offseason: The Athletic Women’s Basketball Show, co-host Zena Keita had high praise for The Spectacle. “Olivia Miles has also made her mark this season, setting the all-time WNBA rookie assist record,” Keita said. “And she’s been doing it with a flash. It’s kind of crazy to look at some of the numbers that she’s putting up in a single season. “Over six assists. She has almost a two-assist-to-turnover ratio, which is good. Right? Like, this is Ticha Penicheiro numbers. These are Courtney Vandersloot— Yeah. Type of numbers as they were coming up. And it’s, she’s not yet in the elite tier in terms of her numbers, but she’s a rookie doing this.” Forgetting someone? There’s no doubt that Miles has been everything Lynx fans could’ve hoped in her rookie season, but Keita’s stats are doing some serious erasure. It was only two years ago when Indiana Fever star Caitlin Clark turned in one of the greatest guard seasons of all time as a rookie. Miles entered Sunday with 228 assists. In Clark’s rookie campaign, she tallied 337 assists in just 40 games. The fact that Keita completely disregarded Clark’s rookie campaign was not wasted on fans on social media. “One of the dumbest people in W media. Dear god. This is the same lady who said Caitlin Clark should be benched for Raven Johnson. Like, what are we doing here? Liv won’t even sniff the rookie assist record. Won’t come anywhere close. This is just embarrassing,” one person posted on X. “I love Olivia Miles. I think she’s special. Doing stuff like this just divides the fanbases because yet again, not getting simple facts right, facts that if you actually watched games you should know, makes it seem like you’re pushing an agenda,” someone else added. “So (ION) you should rethink having these ladies on Friday nights. This includes the (The Athletic) and the W letting them have a vote. Going on a podcast spewing wrong stats is diabolical,” another person wrote. In all likelihood, Keita simply forgot that Clark is the record holder. Still, it’s tough to defend being so blatantly and loudly wrong.
