Liverpool don’t look to be giving up on their efforts to sign Crystal Palace winger Ismaila Sarr, with journalist Khadim Diakhate giving the latest on the situation. The Senegalese has been linked with the Reds in recent days, but former scout Mick Brown poured cold water on the rumour, saying he expects Palace to keep him this summer: “Sarr has been crucial for Crystal Palace over the last couple of seasons. He scored tons of goals last season and was a big part in why they were successful again, so from Palace’s point of view, he is key to their plans for the future. “We’ve said the same thing about Crystal Palace since they won the FA Cup. They have to be doing everything in their power to keep their best players at the club. That’s often easier said than done, but they already sold [Maxence] Lacroix earlier this summer, and they won’t want to let another one go.” But now, Diakhate has taken to X to report that Liverpool are planning an improved offer for Sarr before the end of deadline day – one that could be as much as £68.4m: “Ismaila Sarr: Liverpool steps up for the Senegalese star! Crystal Palace rejected €60M, but the Reds are already preparing an offer of €75 to €80M! And the Gakpo situation could unlock everything: if the Dutchman leaves, Liverpool would make Ismaïla Sarr their top priority.” Is Ismaila Sarr good enough for Liverpool? Opinion seems to be divided about Liverpool signing Sarr, with some feeling he isn’t good enough and others seeing him as a shrewd addition with lots of Premier League experience. The Reds have certainly felt the 28-year-old’s wrath in the past, allowing him to score seven times against them, and being hailed by manager Jean-Louis Gasset during their time together at Marseille: “He is going to become a very big player. He has speed and he is capable of keeping going and repeating his efforts. He just need to master his finishing, but unfortunately, we don’t have time to work on that. He is an extraordinary little guy.” Ultimately, there are positives and negatives with Sarr, who would bring an added goal threat but also isn’t getting younger, and Liverpool may be wiser to go with a younger option, such as Lille’s Matias Fernandez-Pardo (21). That said, if the Palace man does end up being the choice of right winger, he could easily be a hit at Anfield, having caused the Reds so many problems down the years.
