Super Eagles striker Victor Osimhen scored his first goal of the preseason as Galatasaray played out a 3-3 draw against French Ligue 1 side Rennes in a friendly encounter on Sunday evening. The Nigerian international, who has remained a key figure for the Yellow-Reds, produced another encouraging display and opened his scoring account for the 2026 preseason campaign with a well-taken first-half header. Osimhen gave Galatasaray the lead in the 18th minute after rising highest to meet a perfectly delivered corner from Brazilian midfielder Gabriel Sara, powering his header beyond the Rennes goalkeeper. The Turkish champions, however, were unable to hold on to their advantage as Rennes responded nine minutes later through Esteban Lepaul, who capitalised on a mistake by Galatasaray goalkeeper Uğurcan Çakır to delicately loop the ball into the back of the net. Galatasaray regained the lead shortly after the restart when Gabriel Sara found the back of the net, but Rennes mounted another comeback in the second half. Lepaul proved to be the difference for the French side, scoring twice more to complete his hat-trick, before a penalty kick from Baris Yilmaz rescued a draw for Galatasaray in the entertaining preseason contest. Despite the result, Osimhen will take plenty of positives from the encounter after opening his pre-season goal account and continuing to show his importance to Okan Buruk's side ahead of the new campaign. The 27-year-old enjoyed another outstanding season last term, scoring 22 goals and providing eight assists in 33 appearances across all competitions as Galatasaray retained the Turkish Super Lig title and reached the Round of 16 of the UEFA Champions League. With the new season drawing closer, Osimhen will be hoping to build on his latest performance, regain full sharpness, and continue his prolific goalscoring form as Galatasaray target success both domestically and in European competitions.
