Vinai Venkatesham reveals Tottenham have overhauled their performance and medical departments to reduce injuries.
Tottenham Hotspur Chief Executive Officer Vinai Venkatesham has confirmed that the club has implemented wide-ranging changes across its performance, medical, and physical preparation departments. Speaking on the club’s strategy to address fitness issues, Venkatesham acknowledged that Tottenham have suffered from an unacceptable volume of player injuries in recent seasons and detailed the steps taken to boost squad availability.
To address recurring fitness setbacks, Tottenham have brought in new specialized personnel and updated their training infrastructure. Venkatesham outlined the strategic additions to the club’s medical setup (h/t Hotspur Lane on X):
“We have suffered too many injuries in recent years. Sweeping changes have been made to our Performance team, bringing in top experts with new skills and expertise to transform the way we work across performance, medical and physical preparation.”
In addition to staff restructuring, Tottenham have renovated their primary training environment. The club completed significant modifications to the first-team gym setup to provide elite conditioning resources tailored toward building physical resilience.
“We have made significant changes to our first team gym to provide the right environment to improve the resilience of our squad.”
Focus on Long-Term Squad Availability
While acknowledging the immediate demands of top-flight football, Venkatesham urged patience regarding the long-term impact of these operational changes. The CEO emphasized that building sustainable physical readiness requires a continuous process:
“Things cannot be expected to change overnight, but we have the right building blocks in place to improve player availability.”
The structural overhaul arrives at a crucial period for head coach Roberto De Zerbi, who is managing several key fitness lay-offs across his squad. By aligning executive investment with modernized medical practices, Tottenham aim to minimize midseason injury crises and maintain optimal player availability throughout the campaign.
