Arsenal secure bargain Bruno Guimaraes deal with Newcastle set to receive £68m from sale Arsenal have secured a bargain transfer for one of the Premier League's best midfielders with Newcastle United set to make less than £70million from the transfer of Bruno Guimaraes Newcastle United are set to receive less than £70million for the sale of Bruno Guimaraes as Arsenal land a bargain deal for their number one midfield target. The club have been in talks for many weeks, with informal discussions being held through intermediaries to help determine the potential sale price. football.london understands that the Magpies had been seeking a figure of at least £80million but the Gunners’ sporting director, Andrea Berta, has helped to bring the asking price to a compromise in the region of £75million. However, due to Guimaraes’ sale from Lyon, including a specific sell-on clause, Matthias Jaissle’s new side will lose out on maximising value. Sell-on deals can take many forms, where it can be a percentage of the total next transfer fee paid for the player. Or, as is the case with Guimaraes, it can be a percentage of the profit the club makes from what they initially paid. FOLLOW OUR ARSENAL FB PAGE! Latest Gunners news, analysis and much more via our dedicated Facebook page Newcastle agreed a £35million plus £6.6million in add-ons move from Lyon in 2022. The French side would get 20% of any profit made from any future sale. Assuming that all of the add-ons have been fulfilled, with Newcastle qualifying for the Champions League, Newcastle will make a profit of around £33.9million. Therefore Lyon will be due £6.78million from the sale. Totalling £68.22million that Newcastle will get from the sale of Guimaraes, far below what they had initially hoped, with early suggestions of valuing the midfielder at £100million, the same as they sold Sandro Tonali to Tottenham. Taking into account that Arsenal will receive around £7million from the sale of Christian Norgaard, who is expected to join Everton, the Gunners have helped offset the purchase of Guimaraes and therefore also are investing less than £70million to replace a midfield option while significantly raising the quality level. Overall, Arsenal have been the winners of this transfer bout. Newcastle will certainly be facing scrutiny for their summer of major losses and will be left with big questions about where things go from here.
