Blackburn Rovers have qualified for the second round of the Carabao Cup after coming from behind to defeat Burton Albion 2-1, with Super Eagles right-back Ryan Alebiosu providing the game-winning assist. Alebiosu was joined in the starting lineup by Super Eagles hopeful Dapo Afolayan in Tony Mowbray's first competitive game in charge following his reappointment in June. Zac Scutt opened the scoring in the 14th minute after Lofthouse’s effort was parried into his path, allowing the youngster to calmly slot home and give Burton the lead. Alebiosu came close to creating an opening in the 25th minute when his looping cross found Afolayan, whose diving header flew narrowly wide of the top corner. In the 81st minute, substitute Andri Gudjohnsen found the net from close range after meeting Todd Cantwell's cutback to level the score. The match-winning moment came in the 88th minute when Afolayan’s replacement, Jayden Fevrier, curled the ball past the Brewers goalkeeper after being teed up by Alebiosu.
