DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. — Embry-Riddle (1-0-1) secured a 2-1 victory at home over Flagler (0-1) on Saturday, scoring a goal in each half to claim their first win of the season. The Eagles found most of their success on counter-attacks against the high-pressing Saints squad. First Half - With just under 10 minutes played, the Blue and Gold found a goal through Ebba Fjordskaer, assisted by Agnes Vigholm who found her fellow Swede through on goal and Fjordskaer rounded the keeper to dribble into an empty net. - A congested midfield led to neither team being able to create many chances throughout the opening stages. The teams combined for four shots in the first half, with ERAU scoring on their only shot. - The Saints had a pair of chances to equalize in the final minutes of the half, but a pair of shots from Ella Gembicki and Avery Raimondo were not able to find the target. Second Half - Gembicki leveled the score less than 40 seconds in to the second half, sneaking her shot in at the near post from outside the box. - Fjordskaer won a penalty kick for the team that was then converted by Lauryn Mateo who sent the goalkeeper the wrong way to put the Eagles ahead, 2-1. This was the 10th career game-winning goal for Mateo, tied for the seventh-most in program history. - Following the goal, Embry-Riddle held Flagler without a shot for the final 25 minutes. Calli Berrang and Lisa Elowsson each came within inches of adding a third goal before the end of the game but were denied by a save and goal-line clearance. - The Eagles used 18 total players in the match today, showcasing the depth on the team, specifically in the second half to close out the game. Inside The Stats - Ebba Fjordskaer notched the first goal of her career with her tally in the ninth minute. - Agnes Vigholm has now recorded at least one point in each game this season with a goal versus Lee and assist vs Flagler. - Stella Roane has now played all 90 minutes in 20 consecutive games for the Blue and Gold. - Berrang and Emily Vennard each made their debuts for Embry-Riddle this afternoon.
