Dundee dominate Aberdeen as Steven Pressley's men show they are no Average Joes – 5 talking points The hosts could and should have won by a far wider margin than they did after an impressive showing at Dens Park Dundee proved they were more than Average Joes as they sunk Aberdeen at Dens Park. Joe Westley and Joe Bevan got the goals to fire them to their first Premiership win of the season. Dundee continued their recent dominance against the Dons. This was their third win on the bounce against Aberdeen - their best run against their North-east rivals. Steven Pressley’s side had been unlucky to lose their opener against Celtic but ensured they got that early win on the board. It was a blow for Stephen Robinson and his new-look team as they slumped to their first defeat of the season. They had come into this one on the back of five straight wins, but they could have very little complaints. Dundee were the better team. Stephen Robinson's men will get a shot at redemption next week when Dundee travel to Pittodrie in the Premier Sports Cup. They will have to play a lot better to win that one. Go Westley Dundee had made a good positive start. Dan Happe made a mistake and Bevan got in behind, but he fired into the side netting. The winger then turned creator for Dundee to take the lead in the ninth minute. Charlie Reilly played the ball up the right to Bevan, who curled in a cross for Westley to get between two defenders and volley the ball past Marius Muller. It was a good goal from a home point of view, but from an Aberdeen perspective it was passive. Not that it mattered to Westley and Dundee. The Englishman had been on at Steven Pressley to play centre forward and his goal showed why. He could have had a second when he got in between two defenders. Muller came off his line to make a fine block and then Simon Murray volleyed weakly at the keeper. Dundee wideos The Dark Blues were by far the better team in the first half. The only disappointment for Steven Pressley was that his team only went in 1-0 up. Bevan up the right looked unplayable. His pace gave Nesta Guinness-Walker a major headache at left-back Bevan put in some great balls across the face. Aberdeen’s full-backs were playing high and you could see Pressley had seen that and got his own wide players in the gaps left behind. Bevan, on this showing, displayed the qualities that had won him a move to English Premier League Burnley. He picked up the ball, cut inside and curled in a shot that forced Muller into a flying stop. He then put in another tantalising ball that Lewis Mayo, on the stretch managed to desperately clear. Dons fans hitting the boos The Red Army had sold out the Bill Shankly and their away allocation in the Main Stand. The Dons had come into this game full of confidence and on a winning run, but they never got going in this one. They were off it and second best. Chances in and around Owen Goodman’s goal were few and far between. You could see Robinson getting frustrated and he picked up a booking for complaining about Lewis Mayo’s caution. The only real effort came in the 35th minute. Stuart Armstrong’s back post corner was powered towards goal by Happe but Goodman managed to get a touch on to the bar, before Ethan Hamilton hooked clear. The boos rang out from the away sections as their team headed back into the dressing room. They picked up slightly in the second half, but it still wasn't at the level Aberdeen expect. Knockin' on Bevan's door Tony Yogane’s Dens Park return lasted 45 minutes. He had been miles off it like many others in his team. He was subbed at half-time along with Afeez Aremu. Lewis Smith and Ayoub Mouloua came on to try and give the visitors more of a threat. There was a VAR check when Toyosi Olusanya went down under Goodman’s challenge, although the striker had run the ball out the park. The check decided it wasn’t a spot kick. Bevan then made Aberdeen pay the penalty. Charlie Reilly's deep cross found Bevan free at the back post. Guinness-Parker wasn’t tight enough and it allowed the Dundee player to fire low past Muller in the 56th minute. Hay-maker just misses Sub Ash Hay came on and he would be left wondering how he didn’t net. He got in after some hesitant defending but Muller blocked his shot. The Englishman had another chance where he shot wide and then had a header saved by the keeper. Aberdeen had a couple of half-efforts but nothing that was going to change the final outcome.
