The All Blacks put in a valiant effort as they lost 33-26 to the Springboks. The All Blacks scored four tries and despite only conceding three, gave their opposition too many opportunities to score points from penalties. Rennie’s side found themselves 24-14 down at halftime, but they scored the final two tries to bring themselves within seven points with a few minutes to go. Despite the game ending in defeat, it was a brilliant performance from this All Blacks side. 1 George Bower- 7 Led the match for tackles when he came off with 12. The scrum made massive improvements compared to the first test last week. All 12 of his tackles were completed, and he put in a great shift. 2 Codie Taylor- 5 Lineout was a struggle for the All Blacks, and he missed a few tackles. When he came off after 48 minutes, Asafo Aumua made a strong impact in carries and with his defensive ability. 3 Tyrel Lomax- 6 Was subbed off on 48 minutes, part of the first changes for the All Blacks. Made four carries and six tackles during this time, and the scrum was relatively solid. 4 Fabian Holland- 8 Holland has proved in the last two tests that he has what it takes to compete physically at the top level. He made 14 tackles, the most for the All Blacks other than Ardie Savea. The lock also made eight carries, although he didn’t make much ground, only gaining nine metres. 5 Tupou Vaa’i- 7 As always, wanted to be involved in all areas of the game. On 47 minutes, he blocked Cheslin Kolbe approaching a high ball and gave away a silly penalty. Completed all eight of his tackles in the game and led the forwards with 11 carries. 6 Simon Parker- 7 A solid performance from the start this week from Parker, who came in off the bench in the first half during the first test. Completed 10 of his 11 tackles and has given himself a decent opportunity to hold onto the jersey for test three. 7 Luke Jacobson- 7 Got stuck into the Springboks pack, although he did give away a few penalties throughout. Silly penalty conceded on 45 minutes as the All Blacks were entering the 22. Made 12 tackles in the game without missing one. 8 Ardie Savea- 8 Another strong captain’s performance from the number eight. Unbelievable carry off the back of the lineout led to the Damian McKenzie try. Made 49 metres off carries and got a try of his own at the end which set up an incredible finish as the All Blacks were seven behind with a few minutes to play. Led the All Blacks for tackles with 17. 9 Cam Roigard- 8.5 Brilliant support line allowed him to score the first All Blacks try, linking up with Will Jordan having beaten two men on the outside. Caused the Springboks defence issues with the danger he posed around the base of the ruck with his picks on occasion. Made 56 carry metres, the third most on the pitch behind Will Jordan and Cheslin Kolbe. 10 Ruben Love- 8.5 I felt Love had a brilliant game. There were not many individual moments of brilliance but he ran the game like a fly-half with 100 test caps in the second half. He worked excellently with Barrett and McKenzie to offer distribution options all over the pitch. Made three of his four kicks, with his one miss coming front the wing and slipping just wide. 11 Leroy Carter- 8 Outstanding finish in the corner brought the All Blacks back within two scores. Carried well when he got the opportunity and has likely retained his spot for next weekend. Made 49 metres from 12 carries and five tackles. 12 Jordie Barrett- 7.5 Another brilliant performance from the 12, where he distributed, kicked and defended well. He made 11 tackles, but did also lose the ball three times to turnovers, getting a little isolated the carry. 13 Quinn Tupaea- 8 Great wide pass to set Leroy Carter off into the corner for the third try. The centre also led the game for carries with 14, typically off first phase. Also had to be switched on defensively as De Allende and Kriel put on strong attacking performances. 14 Will Jordan- 8.5 Outstanding carry beating two men found himself with a 2 vs 1 in the backfield. He found Cam Roigard on the inside who scored the All Blacks first try. Was great at holding his width which allowed the All Blacks to find space when they gained the right to go wide. He led the way for metres gained with 117, more than double of any other All Black. 15 Damian McKenzie- 8 Scored the second All Blacks try in the corner after some incredible work by Ardie Savea off the back of a lineout move. Showed his importance as an additional distribution and creative force. Allowed the All Blacks to get wide on several occasions and got Jordan and Carter on the ball where they wanted to be.
