Texas Tech softball players injured in lake accident
Multiple players from the Texas Tech softball team were injured in a watercraft accident on a lake less than 14 miles from campus, multiple outlets reported Saturday.
The incident, which reportedly took place Thursday at Lake Ransom Canyon, happened during a team function.
"Thank you for all the thoughts and prayers!" Red Raiders head coach Gerry Glasco said in a social media post. "Glad everyone is okay and recovering well!"
Sports Illustrated reported that three members of the team were involved in a jet ski accident and that injuries were to legs and hands. KAMC News in Lubbock, Texas, reported that two jet skis were involved.
"There were thankfully no critical injuries as a result of the accident," a Texas Tech spokesperson told USA Today. "All injured student-athletes have been treated and are expected to make a full recovery."
Texas Tech finished atop the Big 12 Conference standings last season with a 21-3 record (61-10 overall) then lost the conference tournament championship game to Arizona State. The Red Raiders finished runner-up in the NCAA Tournament, losing the first two games in the best-of-three championship series to Texas.
