The Philadelphia Eagles lost all three games during the preseason, though none of their starters played during those games besides Makai Lemon in the third week and Jihaad Campbell in the first week. But despite the winless preseason record, a few players stood out as having great preseasons. One player, running back Carson Steele, formerly with the Kansas City Chiefs, had a great preseason that turned him into a fan favorite. However, according to Ryan Fowler of NBC Sports Philadelphia, the Eagles are cutting Steele amid their 53-man roster cutdowns this summer. Unfortunately, Steele, the preseason fan favorite, didn't make the cut. Steele became a fan favorite in Philadelphia during the preseason, especially for his Week 2 performance against the New England Patriots. He ran the ball 12 times for 33 yards, which isn't a good rushing performance. But what was truly impressive was his receiving work. He caught six of seven targets for 84 yards and a touchdown. Plus, he had two hurdles, including one on the TD reception. Against the Cincinnati Bengals, Steele ran the ball eight times for 24 yards and caught eight of nine targets for 52 yards and a touchdown. He didn't see much work in the preseason opener against the Baltimore Ravens, running the ball once for two yards and not getting one target during that preseason game. But with Saquon Barkley, Tank Bigsby, and Will Shipley leading the way, Steele wasn't going to have much of a chance to make an impact in the offense. He would need to be a core special teamer, or a great fullback or blocking tight end, to see actual NFL action this year for the Eagles. It's a shame they had to move on, but with a tight 53-man roster to work with, the Eagles are going to have to make some tough decisions. Steele, the preseason standout, is one of those tough releases for the Eagles.
