Amidst a key series between the clubs this weekend, Boston is making a pivotal roster move. The Red Sox are reinstating pitcher Garrett Whitlock from the injured list, per the team. Whitlock has been bothered by an elbow injury. “The 30-year-old reliever never made any rehab appearances in the minors but still figures to immediately slot back in as the Red Sox's top setup man for closer Aroldis Chapman. Wyatt Olds was optioned to Triple-A in a corresponding move,” CBS Sports reported. New York is currently second in the AL East. The Yankees defeated the Red Sox on Friday, 1-0. Boston is third in the division and hopes to win out the remainder of games in this series. It has truly been a wild season for Boston. The Red Sox struggled out of the gate, and ended up firing manager Alex Cora. After Cora's firing, the team has found success. Boston went on a 15-game win streak over the summer, to catch up in the standings. Boston knows how important it is to win games against the Yankees at this point in the campaign. The Red Sox could host a postseason series against New York, if they can catch up. “That’s important,” Red Sox interim manager Chad Tracy said, per MLB.com. “I won't shy away from that. It's a home-field advantage when you're playing at home for most people. It wasn't for us for a while, but it has been lately. So, yeah, I think if you get a short series, and you're able to play in your home ballpark, that stuff matters for sure.” The two teams are in action again on Saturday.
