Everton head to Bournemouth this afternoon looking to maintain their perfect start to the new season. David Moyes’ side opened their Premier League campaign with a 2-0 victory over Crystal Palace before making it two wins from two in all competitions with Wednesday’s 4-0 Carabao Cup success at Preston North End. There is confidence around Everton heading to the south coast, but history suggests the Vitality Stadium is rarely an easy place to begin an away campaign. Bournemouth have not lost their first home game for eight seasons Bournemouth are unbeaten in their opening home league fixture in each of the last eight seasons. The Cherries have won four and drawn four since suffering a 2-0 defeat against Watford in August 2017. Marco Rose will now attempt to extend that sequence in his first Premier League home match since taking charge at Bournemouth. His side came close to making a winning start at Manchester City last weekend. Marcus Tavernier gave Bournemouth the lead at the Etihad before late goals from Marc Guéhi and Josko Gvardiol turned the game around and gave City a 2-1 victory. That defeat brought Bournemouth’s 18-match unbeaten Premier League run to an end, but their record against Everton offers another reason for caution. The Toffees have won only one of their nine Premier League visits to Bournemouth, drawing two and losing six. The good news is that the solitary victory came on Everton’s most recent visit. Jack Grealish scored the only goal as Moyes’ side won 1-0 at the Vitality Stadium last December. Everton also have an unwanted opening-away-day sequence of their own to end this afternoon. They have lost their first away Premier League fixture in each of the last four seasons and failed to score in the last three of those games. There is an opportunity to rewrite another recent piece of history too. Victory would give Everton successive wins at the start of a Premier League campaign for the first time since 2020/21, when Carlo Ancelotti’s side began with four consecutive victories. Something, then, has to give at the Vitality. Everton arrive with two wins, six goals and two clean sheets from their opening two competitive games.
