Injury crisis?

Injury crisis? I count 8 players out injured, the worst of whom seems poor old Collins Sichenje, But, is the ‘crisis’ as bad as it seems? Nathan Jones will never disclose extent of injuries but it is clear from his slightly less concealed facade today that Collins will be out for a significant length of time with his knee injury. It only happened two days ago so I am sure it is still being assessed, but the Kenyan was clearly distressed and in a lot of discomfort when he exited the field on a stretcher at Tottenham. There is premature talk of him missing the whole season. I don’t know about that but I reckon it could well be well into the new year. This is Collins’ third injury since joining us in January. He doesn’t have looked to have any real injury problems before in his career since making his senior bow in 2022. The same can’t be said for Reece Burke, who injured himself doing nothing I think Jones described it as during the week. Burke being out meant that Billy Koumetio was the sole player from the weekend that start at Spurs, and in a fated moment that can only happen at Charlton he too lay down injured just a few feet from his central defensive partner Sichenje. Koumetio has been excellent so far, and he too was subbed off but today Jones said it was more of a precaution. “Billy isn’t bad. That was precautionary” Jones said. Phew. Josh Edwards and Charlie Kelman are both training. Charlie never stopped training through his shoulder injury, he just couldn’t do any contact stuff. Jones made the point of saying that Kelman is raring to go. Which is good, as I’m worried about Godden. He has played so little football in the past year. I hear the club are thinking 6 weeks with his hamstring injury. Will Mannion and Kayne Ramsay will be back after the international break, so early October. Obviously this early season run of injury setbacks has forced the club’s hand in the transfer market. Three incomings is now a possibility and we may have to expect more to go out, more than originally thought, and as hard as it is I suspect they won’t even name Sichenje in the first team squad for the first half of the season!
