The World Boxing Council and its President, Mauricio Sulaimán, express their deepest condolences on the passing of beloved and respected Mexican boxing trainer Tiburcio García, a fundamental figure in the development of multiple champions and a cherished pillar of the Mexican and international boxing family. Tiburcio García began his journey in boxing under the guidance of legendary manager Arturo “Cuyo” Hernández. During his time as a fighter, he built a solid record with over 100 amateur bouts and 30 professional fights—at a stage where he discovered his true and greatest calling: teaching and technical corner direction. He took his first steps as a trainer at the iconic Nuevo Jordán Gym, where he served as an assistant and helped launch the careers of dozens of young prospects. Later, fully established at the prestigious Romanza Gym, García became a key piece in the tactical and physical preparation of some of the greatest world champions in Mexican boxing history, actively collaborating in the work of legends Gilberto Román, Daniel Zaragoza, Víctor Rabanales, Melchor Cob, José Luis Bueno, Humberto “Chiquita” González, Rafael Márquez, José Luis Castillo, and Juan Manuel Márquez, among many others. His talent, knowledge, intelligence, teaching ability, loyalty and unwavering dedication reached far beyond national borders to the Far East. In Japan, he assisted at the famed Green Tsuda Gym, where he contributed to the preparation of world champions Hiroki Ioka and Keiji Yamaguchi. Throughout a lifetime entirely dedicated to the gym, Tiburcio García not only left an indelible mark on elite boxing, but also patiently and devotedly molded hundreds of amateur fighters, always guiding them along the path of sport and strong values. Mauricio Sulaimán, as well as the entire WBC, join in prayer with the family, friends, and students of Don Tiburcio during this time of profound grief. Tiburcio has left with a magnificent legacy and a path to follow, as he embarks upon the road of no return. May a true master of the ring rest in peace!
