Qualifying in the lightweight class had a little bit of everything, starting with a good chunk of Q2 lost to crawling around waiting for the perfect tow, followed by some title drama and ending with the first British rider to take Moto3 pole position on home soil. The early shenanigans meant that only 12 riders had set a timed lap with two minutes left of the session but teamwork paid off for Scott Ogden and Adrian Cruces, who helped each other achieve a 1-2 on the grid and an emotional pole position for Ogden on his final flying lap. The British rider had the upper hand over his teammate by a quarter of a second, as he secured his second career pole, while Cruces settled for a very impressive second place on the grid. Completing the front row was Valentin Perrone, the Argentinian rider quick on Friday but slow to set a competitive lap in Q2 - relying on his final lap to take him from the bottom of the timesheets up to 3rd. After doing his best work early on and setting the benchmark at the start of Q2, David Almansa got punished for watching the end of the session from pitlane and was demoted from the front row in the blink of an eye, by a painful three thousandths of a second. The Spaniard opens the second row ahead of Alvaro Carpe, who needed a lot more time to get going but eventually managed to jump into 5th, and Adrian Fernandez in 6th. FP2 leader Brian Uriarte was the main target for those looking for a reference but in all the shenanigans he was left 7th on the grid, ahead of Q1 graduates Cormac Buchanan and Hakim Danish. Joel Kelso set an identical time to the rookie ahead but had to settle for 10th, in rather unusual company from championship leader Maximo Quiles. The Spaniard was as high as third on the timing screens but a big crash at the final corner ended his session three minutes early and dropped him down to 11th - however his participation in the race seems unclear as Quiles walked away from the incident holding his right arm. If he does take part, he will start from the middle of the fourth row, ahead of Ryusei Yamanaka. Joel Esteban opens the fifth row ahead of Marco Morelli and Eddie O’Shea, while rookies Veda Pratama and Casey O'Gorman sandwich Q1 graduate Matteo Bertelle one row behind.
