Huddersfield Giants have confirmed that they will be playing their 2027 home games at Dewsbury’s FLAIR Stadium, subject to RFL approval, with the Super League club set to invest circa £10 million to upgrade facilities at the stadium. A statement from the club announced: “The Huddersfield Giants intention is that they will be moving to Dewsbury’s Flair Stadium, subject to RFL board approval, investing a projected £10m+ in developing the ground.” That £10 million upgrade will include increasing the capacity of the ground from 5,000 to 8,000, whilst also building a new stand that will ensure spectators can watch matches from all four sides of the pitch. It’s also important to note that Dewsbury will still play at the ground, though its facilities will be elevated to a Super League standard with a statement from Huddersfield Giants listing all the upgrades that will be undertaken. Those included: “Impressive refurbishment of the fan concourses, significant upgrades to existing and new hospitality suites, new bars and food areas, both male and female player dressing rooms, and press facilities”, all of which the Giants believe will elevate the stadium to Super League standards. Owner Ken Davy had been clear on wanting to remain in Huddersfield but that simply has not been possible and the club’s strong ties with Dewsbury, where the Giants have played twice in the past two seasons, have seen the Super League club move their base to the town less than 10 miles down the road. Ken Davy was clear on one thing though and that was that the club remain the Huddersfield Giants, as he explained the decision to move to Dewsbury, though he admitted that his ‘overriding aim’ is to build a purpose-built stadium in Huddersfield – something that simply is not possible in time for 2027. Davy said: “It’s no secret that as a club, we have fought to find a home in Huddersfield. We had to move from Fartown, from Leeds Road, and now from the Accu Stadium. But the Huddersfield Giants will not retreat. We will not compromise or quietly shuffle into the shadows. “While we remain the Huddersfield Giants, I am proud to announce that our stage for the 2027 season and beyond is Dewsbury. The Flair Stadium is the perfect location for us, it will have the right capacity and facilities for the Giants and its fans to thrive while we continue the search for our permanent home. Our one giant future starts now. “My overriding aim is to create a purpose-built stadium within Huddersfield for the Giants to call home. My commitment on that has not wavered.
