Tatsuki Seko is set to return to Japan as it is believed Stoke City have agreed a fee with a J1 League club. The 28-year-old midfielder is missing from Stoke's squad today for their first competitive match of the season, a Carabao Cup first round tie against Oldham Athletic at the bet365 Stadium.
He has made 75 appearances for Stoke since joining from Kawasaki Frontale for a modest fee two years ago and Stoke are understood to have sanctioned his departure for a similar fee.
Stoke have brought in three front line central midfielders so far this summer in an overhaul of the department, signing Ethan Galbraith from Swansea, Djibril Soumare from Braga and Svante Ingelsson from Sheffield Wednesday while Lewis Baker and Steven Nzonzi were released at the end of their contracts.
There has been speculation about the future of Ben Pearson too as he slips down the pecking order but it would not be the biggest surprise if Stoke brought in another midfielder as the squad is managed in the few weeks before deadline day.
Mark Robins has handed debuts to Galbraith and Ingelsson against Oldham, as well as defender Luke Graham.
Stoke: Johansson, Wilmot, Bocat, Lawal, Graham, Ingelsson, Galbraith, Thomas, Manhoef, Gallagher, Cisse. Subs: Griffiths, Talovierov, Gibson, Pearson, Soumare, Rigo, Junho, Smit, Bozenik.
