• Owner of District Logistics admits to stealing $1.3 million in COVID relief funds (wusa9.com) — A Washington, D.C. businessman who owns District Logistics has admitted falsifying records to secure $1.35 million in COVID relief loans, some of which he used for day trading and casino gambling. Prosecutors say the DC-based hauling and snow-removal company wouldn't have qualified without the fake documents, and sentencing is set for February 2027.
• Judge Dismisses Reflecting Pool Criminal Case Against Former Olympian (ntd.com) — A Washington, D.C. judge has dismissed a felony case accusing former Olympian Davey Hearn of damaging the Lincoln Memorial Reflecting Pool liner, after new information suggested a contractor's rushed installation may be to blame. Prosecutors can still seek to refile, while Hearn's attorneys push for the case to be permanently closed.
• Wizards tip off the school year with backpacks, haircuts and family fun across the DMV (wusa9.com) — Families in Washington, D.C. can snag free backpacks, school supplies, books, haircuts, and more when the Wizards host two Back-to-School Tip-Off events next Thursday and Friday at Powell Elementary and Claremont Immersion. DC Public Library will issue library cards on-site, while local partners provide health resources, snacks, and entertainment from Wizards dancers, DJ Chalant, and mascot G-Wiz.
