Alan Pace addresses Burnley's summer transfer business on eve of new season
Alan Pace speaks about the importance of adding experience to Burnley’s squad
Alan Pace has spoken about the importance of adding experience to Burnley’s squad in a message on the eve of the new season.
The Clarets brought in 36-year-old Ben Amos this week to some much-needed competition to Burnley’s previously depleted goalkeeping department.
While Amos isn’t expected to feature much, it’s hoped his experience and know-how will prove invaluable behind the scenes.
Ashley Barnes, another man who’s been there, seen it and done it, has also returned to see out his final year of his playing career.
It’s otherwise been a relatively quiet window to date on the incoming front, with Ugo Raghouber and Lluc Castell arriving from Lille and Espanyol respectively.
But Pace, writing in his programme notes ahead of Burnley’s first game of the season this afternoon, insists the club continue to work hard behind the scenes to get new faces in the building.
“This afternoon is a great opportunity to show the hard work and learnings from pre-season and build some positive momentum heading into next weekend’s league game against West Ham,” he penned.

“At this time of year, I know that there’s a lot of talk around the transfer window. We’ve welcomed some new faces in recent weeks; Lluc, Ugo and Ben and the team is working hard behind the scenes to ensure that we can do what needs to be done.
“We also announced the news that Ashley Barnes has signed a one-year contract extension, with a coaching role to follow.
“Ashley’s experience, character and knowledge of what it means to play for Burnley is so important. He brings a lot to the table and I’m happy that we get to enjoy another season together.
“Having these experienced players - Ashley, Kyle, Josh and Ben, to name just a few - in the dressing room is so important.
“We know all too well how relentless the Championship is and the senior figures can really help guide the younger members of the squad.”
Pace added: “I’ve admired the work that Nicky and the coaches have been putting in over pre-season and while it will no doubt be challenging, we have an exciting campaign ahead of us, starting with today’s Carabao Cup test.
“Let’s get behind the team, Clarets!”
