Liverpool are reportedly happy for midfielder Stefan Bajcetic to leave the club and seal a reunion with Celta Vigo, following terrible luck with injuries. The Spaniard was a teenager with a huge amount of potential back in 2023, having provided quality and legs in the Reds’ toiling midfield, as Fabinho and Jordan Henderson drifted past their peak. Since then, however, it has been a nightmare for Bajcetic, with injuries curtailing his progress and two relatively forgettable loan spells away from Liverpool taking place. He has played just three times for the Reds in three years. The 21-year-old is now into the final year of his contract at Anfield, and according to This Is Anfield‘s Jack Lusby on X, a return to Celta looks likely, having essentially been told he can move on: “Stefan Bajcetic with Dr Lasse Lempainen in Turku, Finland after successful return-to-play testing this week. Lempainen was the surgeon who operated on Bajcetic’s hamstring last year. LFC now expected to allow Bajcetic to leave amid links with a return to Celta Vigo.” A sad way for a promising Liverpool career to end It is sad to see Bajcetic’s time at Liverpool peter out in this manner, and had he stayed fit this entire time, he may even be the first-choice option in the No.6 role under Andoni Iraola. We will never know if that would have been the case, but it is undoubtedly the right time to move him on, as he aims to be a regular elsewhere and hopefully stay injury-free. A return to Celta feels like a nice outcome for Bajcetic, allowing him to settle into familiar surroundings, and they are getting a player who Mohamed Salah has called a “great player and person” who “always tries to work hard”, with Jurgen Klopp also saying: “We are really happy with him, a top boy, really smart and calm. He played in a new position, at eight, and I asked him afterwards if he liked it and he said yes. It is a nice story.” We wish Bajetic all the best in the next step of his career and beyond.
