Celtic are reportedly considering a move for Zenit St Petersburg goalkeeper Denis Adamov as Martin O’Neill looks to add another option between the posts. The Hoops remain a goalkeeper short following Kasper Schmeichel’s departure, with Viljami Sinisalo taking over as first-choice and inheriting the No.1 jersey. A number of potential targets have emerged in recent months, including Gavin Bazunu, Balazs Toth and Dinko Horkas, but Celtic have yet to make a breakthrough. Adamov is now the latest name to enter the frame. According to Russian journalist Vanya Karpov, the 27-year-old is under consideration at Parkhead ahead of the transfer deadline. The goalkeeper has less than a year remaining on his Zenit contract, potentially giving the Russian club an incentive to cash in rather than risk losing him for nothing. Adamov has established himself as Zenit’s first-choice despite the significant resources available to the St Petersburg club and made his senior Russia debut in an unofficial friendly against Burkina Faso earlier this year. He generally sits behind Paris Saint-Germain goalkeeper Matvey Safonov in the international pecking order, with Russia still barred from official FIFA and UEFA competition following the invasion of Ukraine. Adamov is reportedly open to a Celtic switch, with the prospect of playing European club football understood to appeal to him. Any move to Glasgow would now offer Europa League rather than Champions League football, however, after Celtic surrendered a four-goal aggregate advantage in their disastrous play-off collapse against LASK.
