As things stand, they have brought in several fresh faces but not many of them might be ready for starting spots. The most recent addition seems to be. And with the latest news coming out of Lille, the Magpies’ hopes of signing the Belgian international have been boosted. According to Sebastien Denis, Lille manager, Davide Ancelotti, said when speaking about the situation of Fernandez-Pardo: We made the decision that he wouldn’t train with the group until the end of the transfer window and until his situation is resolved. Denis also reports that Fernandez-Pardo still wants to leave at any cost. But Lille are sticking to their asking price and want €70 million for the Belgian international’s departure. Newcastle United want Fernandez-Pardo and are doing everything to find a solution. But other clubs will make offers by next Tuesday as well. Now, it remains to be seen if Newcastle United are able to come out on top or not in the race to sign Fernandez-Pardo. But when things reach a point where a parent club is ready to leave someone out of training after the season has already started, more often than not, a move does end up materialising. Why Matias Fernandez-Pardo? It is important to recognise that Fernandez-Pardo is not some elite goalscorer. He managed to find the back of the net just eight times last season. So, why are Newcastle United trying to sign him? Well, it might be all based on potential and versatility. He is 21 years of age. So, he has a lot of room for growth. Also, one cannot forget that he played a lot of his football as a winger last season. In the 16 games that Fernandez-Pardo started as a centre-forward, he scored seven goals and provided four assists. So, Newcastle United might be willing to take a risk on that potential. If this works out, it could turn out to be a phenomenal signing.
