Jack Grealish and Iliman Ndiaye dominated the Everton news on Thursday as Manchester City and the Blues found themselves discussing two of the biggest names involved in the final days of the transfer window. There was also a blunt assessment of Everton’s remaining transfer business from David Moyes, an injury update, the latest from Bournemouth ahead of Saturday’s game and five goals for the Under-18s. Here are Thursday’s Everton news and talking points. Grealish talks move on – and Ndiaye enters the conversation The biggest development arrived during the afternoon. Fabrizio Romano reported that Grealish is now in talks over a return to Everton, moving things on from the earlier news that the winger was very keen to come back to Merseyside. Romano also dismissed Sunderland as an option after the Black Cats had been linked with the 30-year-old. Manchester City, though, have brought Ndiaye into discussions between the clubs. They have suggested to Everton a possible deal involving the Senegal international moving to the Etihad Stadium. That followed the morning report that City were interested in Ndiaye, with Everton said to value him at around £80million. Nothing reported so far says Everton have agreed to sell Ndiaye, and it would be wrong to describe the situation as an agreed swap. Moyes is still waiting for more The transfer activity comes only hours after Moyes made clear that he remains unhappy with the size of his squad. Speaking after the 4-0 Carabao Cup victory at Preston, Moyes said Everton were “not big enough” in terms of numbers and still required “more quality”. Asked whether he thought Everton would manage to complete the necessary business before the window shuts, he admitted: “I’m not sure we will.” Two wins and six goals to start the season have done little to change his view of what is still required. James Garner has returned considerably earlier than initially expected and started at Preston, having made his comeback from the bench against Crystal Palace. Jarrad Branthwaite’s absence at Deepdale was part of the management of his workload rather than a new injury. Hayden Hackney, meanwhile, missed the cup tie with a minor knock and is being assessed ahead of Bournemouth. Christian Nørgaard and Tim Iroegbunam remain unavailable. Preston offered Moyes a few more answers Everton’s cup win provided plenty to consider beyond the scoreline. Thierno Barry followed his goal against Crystal Palace with a hat-trick, while Brennan Johnson came off the bench to score his first Everton goal and provide an assist. The strength of Moyes’ team selection was also notable, with only three changes made from the side which started the Premier League opener. Bournemouth prepare for Everton arrival Everton’s attention now switches to Saturday and the trip to the Vitality Stadium. Bournemouth’s redevelopment work has suffered delays, but there is no suggestion the Premier League game is in doubt. Work has continued around the ground this week, with turnstile systems, catering facilities and other matchday areas being prepared for Bournemouth’s first competitive home fixture of the season. A new look for Everton Everton also unveiled their third kit for 2026/27 on Thursday. The new strip is predominantly forest green, with darker green and orange detailing, while a light blue goalkeeper kit has also been released. Nsangou hits three as Under-18s score five There was a hat-trick at Finch Farm as well as Deepdale this week. Jonathan Nsangou scored three times in the first half as Everton Under-18s beat Reading 5-0 in the U18 Premier League Cup. Daniel Mrozek and George Finney added the other goals as Everton began their group-stage campaign with a clean sheet and three points. Next up: Bournemouth Everton head to the south coast on Saturday with two wins behind them and considerably more noise surrounding the transfer window than there was at the start of the week. What happens with Grealish and Ndiaye could yet dominate the days before the deadline. For Moyes, though, Bournemouth comes first.
