Arsenal midfielder Mariona Caldentey and defender Lotte Wubben-Moy have spoken of their goal to achieve a 16th WSL title ahead of the new season. They have spoken openly of previous setbacks in winning another title, and have shared their hopes of finishing in top spot at the end of the 26/27 season. Arsenal’s Inconsistencies The pair spoke openly about why they believe the Gunners have missed out on a WSL win since 2019. Wubben-Moy extended reassurance to the fans in a long-ranging interview on the club website: “We know the fans want the WSL title as much as we do, We want to add to Arsenal’s 15 titles.” Joining her, Caldentey spoke of her concerns from previous seasons: “I’d love to win all of the titles, of course, but the league is a big focus for us. We have been missing consistency but if we can find that, we’ll be close to winning the league. “You need to be good in every game to finish first in the league. That’s really hard to do but that is our mentality now. That is what we want to do.” “It’s something we are really working towards but then there is so much competition now. There are so many good teams now and they are also signing good players this summer. The league gets better every year and that is so good for the competition. “We now have such good teams, players, stadiums and facilities. That is so good for women’s football.” Ready to Improve Wubben-Moy spoke of her hopes to have a strong start to the season, in contrast to previous tournaments: “We have had a good six to seven-week pre-season, “That’s a luxury in our game and it’s a great opportunity to build with the players we already have and build on what we’ve already got. We can then integrate the new players into that. “We all want the build up in the rear-view mirror and to get going with the season. While I’m excited for this building stage and growth, I’m ready to write the wrongs of the past. “I’m an experienced player and I have been here in the moments where we have struggled in the first part of the season, and it is definitely something we can improve.” The 27-year-old also discussed the positives of adding depth to the Arsenal squad: “Without a doubt. We have added a lot of quality and experience, and a lot of character. They are joining a squad with a lot of character already so it will add a lot of depth, which is exciting. “I’m pretty experienced within football now so with that, there’s inevitable change. That’s not just individuals but also infrastructure, investment and engagement. “The women’s game continues to grow so quickly, so much so that you have to be nimble, adding characters and the quality we have this summer, it allows us to be even more nimble. “As an experienced player within the squad – I have been here a good while now – I feel I can add a bit of guidance and help provide an environment where new players do come in and feel comfortable and are able to grow and progress.” A Big New Name Caldentey spoke of her excitement to play with Georgia Stanway, who joined Arsenal in July 2026: “I have played against Georgia a lot at international level and also when we have faced Bayern Munich, “I have a lot of respect for her as a player and I am very happy to have her on my side now. “You can already see in training that we will have a really good connection and I am looking forward to building that. “She will help the team a lot and I hope I can help her too. “With Georgia, you can see she likes the ball and is a good passer. She’s a baller and that will be really good for us.” Could Arsenal Secure a Win?
