James Ward-Prowse is heading back to Southampton after West Ham United accepted a cut-price offer for the midfielder. The 31-year-old joined West Ham in a £30million switch back in 2023, following the Saints' relegation from the Premier League. And just three years later, Ward-Prowse is on his way back to the south coast after West Ham accepted a £1million offer from the Saints. The former England international made 410 appearances for his boyhood club after coming through Southampton's academy, adding 55 goals and 52 assists along the way. Ward-Prowse enjoyed a positive first season at West Ham under David Moyes, playing every league game, but he has been in and out of the team since Moyes' departure two years ago. Loans to Nottingham Forest - where he was managed by current Hammers boss Nuno Espirito Santo - and Burnley ultimately proved to be short-lived an unsuccessful. And now the Hammers have agreed to cut their losses and allow Ward-Prowse, who was set to be a fringe player under Espirito Santo, to return to the south coast. Confirmation of the dela is likely within the next 24 hours. * Something to say about this story? Please visit the KUMB Forum to leave a comment.
