Everton’s Premier League game at Bournemouth remains on course to take place as scheduled despite ongoing redevelopment work at the Vitality Stadium. The Cherries have spent the summer making major changes to their home and have encountered delays with parts of the project. David Moyes’ side are due on the south coast at 3pm on Saturday for what will be Bournemouth’s first competitive home fixture of the season. Work has continued around the stadium this week, with Bournemouth preparing the areas required to welcome supporters back for the game. Bournemouth preparing Vitality Stadium for Everton The redevelopment is intended to increase the capacity of the Vitality Stadium from around 11,300 to more than 20,000, with the full project due to continue into 2027. Bournemouth have been working on new corner sections as part of the development, but progress has not been straightforward. Issues including high-voltage cables and the discovery of drains affected work on the north-west corner, prompting the club to make changes to its construction timetable. The schedule was adjusted earlier this month to provide contractors with additional time before Everton’s visit. Pictures from the ground this week show plenty of work remains ongoing, although preparations for Saturday have moved forward. Tarmacking has taken place around parts of the stadium and work has continued on areas used by broadcasters and supporters. Turnstile systems and catering facilities have also been tested, while preparations have been taking place inside the club shop and around the Main Stand. Everton fixture remains on schedule Bournemouth have been confident throughout that the redevelopment would not prevent them staging Saturday’s match. Club president of business operations Jim Frevola addressed the issue last week and was unequivocal when asked whether the ground would be ready. “It will absolutely be ready,” he told BBC Radio Solent. Frevola explained that Bournemouth are able to stop construction work and switch the stadium into matchday operation when required. Not every part of the redevelopment will be finished by Saturday, but there has been no indication that the fixture itself is in doubt. The Premier League continues to list Bournemouth v Everton for 3pm on Saturday, 29 August at the Vitality Stadium. Everton make the trip after winning their opening two competitive games of the season. Moyes’ side beat Crystal Palace 2-0 at the Hill Dickinson before a Thierno Barry hat-trick helped them to a 4-0 Carabao Cup victory at Preston on Wednesday. Bournemouth began their Premier League campaign with a 2-1 defeat at Manchester City. Saturday will therefore be their first opportunity to play in front of their own supporters this season — and the latest work at the Vitality Stadium is geared towards having the required areas ready for their return.
