Arsenal target Julian Alvarez is now being looked at by another Premier League side that are not the Gunners, amid a possible exit from Atletico Madrid.
Alvarez left Manchester City to join Atletico Madrid in the summer of 2024, and under his current contract, he is tied to the club until 2030.
But the 26-year-old has become a target for Spanish giants Barcelona, who want to sign an attacker after the departures of Ferran Torres and Robert Lewandowski.
However, Atletico Madrid do not want to get in bed with direct La Liga rivals in the shape of Barcelona, and are firm on their stance regarding Alvarez’s transfer.
The Argentine striker is also on the radar of Arsenal, but it was suggested recently that ‘very important people’ at the club do not necessarily agree with bringing him to the Emirates.
Arsenal look to have Premier League competition for Alvarez now, although where it is coming from is not yet clear.
Spanish journalist Xavi Hernandez Navarro wrote on X: “A Premier League team that isn’t Arsenal is moving to sign Julian Alvarez.”
Alvarez lifted the title twice with Manchester City under manager Pep Guardiola and his qualities are well known to Premier League sides.
| Club | Years |
|---|---|
| River Plate | 2018-2022 |
| Manchester City | 2022-2024 |
| River Plate (loan) | 2022 |
| Atletico Madrid | 2024- |
Arsenal have been in the market to add more firepower to their attack, as they look to kick on and retain the Premier League title.
The Gunners could see movement before the window closes, with Gabriel Jesus linked with a move away, while Gabriel Martinelli could move to Saudi Arabia.
In some quarters, it is believed that Arsenal would need to pay north of €100m, at least, to take Alvarez off Atletico Madrid’s hands before the end of the summer transfer window.
There would also likely only be a handful of other Premier League side who could make such a financial commitment.
Last term, Alvarez made 49 appearances in all competitions and scored 20 goals, while also chipping in with nine assists for Los Rojiblancos.
It remains to be seen whether Alvarez will make a move this summer, or the 26-year-old will stay put at Atletico Madrid, with the clock ticking on the transfer window.
