Liverpool have reached an agreement over the £120m signing of Paris Saint-Germain winger Bradley Barcola, with the long saga finally reaching its conclusion. The Reds have been pushing to snap up for the Frenchman throughout the summer transfer window, with Paul Joyce of The Times providing a key update earlier this week, saying: “The France international has been a priority for the Anfield club for much of the summer and lengthy negotiations are continuing in the hope of ending the impasse over the player’s valuation. PSG originally valued Barcola at £145million, but have since lowered their asking price. However, if an agreement is reached, the final fee is still expected to be about £115million.” Now, according to The Athletic’s David Ornstein, Liverpool’s pursuit of Barcola is nearly done, with the reliable journalist taking to X to provide an update to please the supporters: “BREAKING: Liverpool reach agreement in principle on terms of deal to sign Bradley Barcola from Paris Saint-Germain. Still details to finalise between LFC & PSG but moving fast after breakthrough overnight on package.” Massive step in the right direction by Liverpool This is arguably the high point of the summer so far for Liverpool, as they lie on the cusp of signing one of the quickest and most dangerous wingers in Europe. A new wide man has been imperative ever since the end of last season – another needs to come in, too – and Barcola is a fantastic addition, having been lauded by PSG manager Luis Enrique in the past: “Everyone is talking about Bradley Barcola, but remember after the Newcastle match (at home) last season, people said he wasn’t ready for the Champions League. We are lucky that he is a very balanced person, very sensible, humble, hard-working, with great family values. He was able to calmly manage the difficult moments post-Newcastle period in the best possible way.” Barcola will add the depth that Liverpool so badly crave on the left wing, and the hope is that he eventually reaches the world-class level Sadio Mane did in that position. It may now open up Cody Gakpo’s exit from the Reds, however, with the Dutchman looking likely to depart, which may end up dividing opinion among the fanbase.
